Zenith racing dinghy: Very Rare 1967 vintage Ian Proctor designed sailing boat. RELUCTANT SALE DUE TO EMIGRATING This pretty, 1967 built racing dinghy is a rare survivor from the heyday of post-war fast dinghy sailing. It is in very good condition and is ready to sail. The Zenith was designed and constructed by the master yacht builder Ian Proctor. Proctor was responsible for over 100 sailing boat designs including some of the most well known types such as the Wayfarer and Topper. He was managing director of Gossport Yacht co. and editor of Yachtsman Magazine and his company eventually built over 65,000 yachts. The Zenith is one of his latest designs. Hull: The hull is sound. It is a lightweight wooden design made of hard woods and varnished mahogany ply decking. It has a centre dagger board and lifting rudder. The boat has buoyancy tanks in front and rear compartments and so it is virtually unsinkable, and it has two self-bailers fitted in the floor. Mast: The mast is in excellent condition given its age as Ian Proctor was also a pioneering designer of metal masts. They were eventually used in the Americas Cup boats of 1978. This one is of good quality construction and is made of aluminium with stainless steel fittings throughout. New main and jib halyards have recently been fitted. Sails: The boat has a very large sail area for its length and so it is fast over the water, but the mainsail can be reefed as the boom is on a rotating gooseneck mast fitting. It can be rolled to the desired area appropriate for the weather conditions. The sails, one main, one jib and one spinnaker, are in good condition. Other items: There are 4 life jackets, a new trailer board with 7m cable, a good roadworthy trailer and two full-boat-area waterproof tarpaulins provided. The stern has a track and traveller system ‘cruising bar’ fitted, with a mainsheet cam cleat for use when sailing over longer distances. This can be removed easily and a bridle system can be fitted to the boat for use when racing. This craft is a work of art and should be a talking point in any sailing arena! Crew: 2 Length: 4.42m Beam: 1.78m Spinnaker: Symmetric Sail Area: 12.6 square metres Spinnaker Area: 11.6 square metres Designed: 1959 The boat is currently located in Milngavie northwest of Glasgow. Pickup is offered but delivery can be organised for an appropriate fee. Please get in touch if there's any questions or your need more information and I'll try answer them promptly for you. Dave.
